Assessment & Reporting

All students attending Adelaide West Special Education Centre have either a Negotiated Education Plan(NEP) and/or an Individual Education Plan (IEP). It is a requirement for every student to have a NEP before they can attend this school.

These plans document the child’s learning and care needs, learning goals, the support they require to access and participate in meaningful curriculum and activities in their educational setting and future pathways identified through school and transition goals. The outcome is a concise working document which summarises the educational plan for the learner.

The NEP document is reviewed annually with families. Parents or the school can request additional NEP meetings when necessary.

Term 1 - Individual student goal setting at the NEP meeting with families are held in term 1. Families are able to invite relevant stakeholders e.g. a therapist to be part of this meeting.

Term 2 - A portfolio of student curriculum activities is sent home at the end of term 2. These may include student work samples, photos of students progressing in their goals and special events.

Term 3 - A formal written report is sent home at the end of term 3.

Term 4 - A DVD of the child’s class activities throughout the year is sent home at the end of the school year.
